GOAL WAS FOR THE FANS

Newcastle United winger Gabriel Obertan has said that he is now dedicating the goal he scored against Blackburn Rovers to the fans.

Gabriel Obertan has been criticised a lot since arriving from Manchester United in the summer. Despite showing flashes of potential, the former Marseille winger has failed to establish himself as one of the first-team regulars at Newcastle United.

Despite this, the club has been performing quite brilliantly in various competitions this season. After being promoted from the Championship only a few seasons ago, it is certainly surprising to see Newcastle United are part of the top of the table fighting for a Champions League position.

Gabriel Obertan was booed by his own fans only a few weeks ago. Manager Alan Pardew came in support of the players say that fans were wrong to boo one of their own players. Since then, there has been a transformation amongst both the Newcastle United fans and Gabriel Obertan. He finally secured the much-needed goal that he was looking for in the match against Blackburn.

Newcastle won the match 2-0 courtesy of a last-minute goal from Gabriel Obertan, which secured all three points amidst all the nervous anxiety. Blackburn looked like being capable of matching an equaliser, but the goal from Obertan gave Newcastle United all three points.

“It was a resolution for me to score my first goal – but a victory was more important for everybody. I didn’t have much time in the game but I seized the opportunity.

When you have plenty of time like this it can be quite difficult because you have plenty of options,” Gabriel Obertan said after the match against Blackburn. Newcastle United are in the sixth position in the Premier league table behind Chelsea and Arsenal. However, they have a real opportunity to finish in the top four.
