Newcastle United good run continues this Season

Newcastle United managed to continue their good run of form after securing a 1-0 win over Liverpool, which was their third consecutive victory in all competitions, but they paid a heavy price of this victory after losing Gabriel Obertan due to a major injury.

The Frenchman has been a major reason behind the club’s much improved form over the last few weeks. He was absent during the early part of the campaign, but his endless energy has allowed Newcastle to play a high pressing game throughout the 90 minutes. It is now expected that the former Manchester United man will miss around four months of action.

Obertan has been much criticised player since moving to the club for £ 2 million a few years ago. He has been extremely good when playing, but those opportunities have been fairly limited due to a succession of injuries. This season he has made only four starts with most of them coming in the last few weeks. Alan Pardew admitted that this was a major blow for the team, but he feels that the squad has enough depth to cope with the absence. After flirting with relegation in the early part of the campaign, three wins on the bounce have pushed Newcastle closer to the top half.

“Losing Obertan to what looks like a serious injury is a massive blow for him and for us.He has been a big part of what we have done in this period. Rolando Aarons come on and he offers us the same pace the other side. It balanced us up,” said Pardew. Newcastle will be taking on West Brom during the weekend. They previously struggled to play away from home. West Brom boss Alan Irvine will be hoping to take advantage of this poor form to get his team’s fourth win of the season.
