OBERTAN: BORDEAUX CAREER EXAMINED

Gabriel Obertanspent some time at the famous Clairefontaine Academy before leaving to join French club Bordeaux. The Erzurumspor winger spent one year in the reserve team at Bordeaux before being promoted to the first team ahead of the 2006/07 season. Gabriel Obertan signed a three-year deal at Bordeaux for his first professional contract and was given the number 26 shirt. He was just a teenager when he played his first game for Bordeaux.

Obertan made his debut for the French club at the age of 17 coming on as a substitute for the final 15 minutes of the league encounter with Valenciennes which ended in a 2-0 defeat for Bordeaux at the end of September 2006. His Champions League bow arrived one month later. Gabriel Obertan made his Champions League debut for Bordeaux in a 3-0 loss to Premier League club Liverpool.

French winger Gabriel Obertan scored his first goal for Bordeaux in a 2-0 away win over Saint Etienne. Obertan found the back of the net in injury time to seal the win. In his first season at Bordeaux, Obertan scored once in 23 games in all competitions with 17 of those games coming in the French top flight. In his second season, Gabriel Obertan scored three goals in 37 games in all competitions in the colours of Bordeaux. He played 11 times for Bordeaux as the club won the league under manager Laurent Blanc. Obertan was sent on loan to Lorient for the second half of the season. While he was on loan at Lorient, winger Obertan scored twice in 17 games in all competitions including once in 15 games in the league.

Obertan signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2009 upon his return from the loan spell at Lorient. The Red Devils paid around £3m to secure his transfer.
