Newcastle United’s Shola Ameobi says that the players at the club want caretaker manager John Carver to be appointed on a permanent basis.
After the shock exit of Alan Pardew midway through the campaign, the club decided to put Carver in charge until the end of the campaign. This was due to the lack of availability of top managers. It is widely believed that the club will be waiting until the summer in order to hold negotiations with potential candidates. A number of top managers are expected to be available this summer. Newcastle have reportedly set their sights on Ajax boss Frank de Boer.
Amidst such talk, Ameobi says that the club wants to have Carver on a permanent basis. The players have been performing really well, although results have not been conveying the same, since the appointment of Carver. Even though there were the odd poor results like the 5-0 thrashing against Manchester City, Newcastle have been doing well for most part. Further, they will not be involved in any kind of relegation battle since they have a comfortable 13 point cushion to the relegation zone. Newcastle have won just two matches since the turn of the year with each of them coming in January and February respectively.
“John Carver is a man who sticks by his players. He’s been around for so long. Everybody is very used to him. We all want the best for him.We are trying to the best for him and hopefully, he keeps his job.It brings life to the city.Being somebody who’s local I want this city to do well and prosper. Any team that hasn’t got 40 points in the final third of the season is in a relegation fight,” said the winger ahead of the match against Everton this weekend.
